I am often asked, What do you paint? The answer to this has been a bit of a journey. I know it's expressive, organic shapes, colours and textures, sometimes flowers and sometimes geometric, organic shapes and always lots of lines. In this last bit of time, the answer has become clearer and clearer as I walk the roads with my Bernesse Murphy. It's my relationship to the land. Evoked by emotions, organic in nature, the expression of the land that holds us.
Painting and creating are my ways of interacting with the world. Colour, line, movement, texture and shapes are in constant dialogue, and I am adding, subtracting and exploring until everything has been said and the canvas is quiet. Colour is my language; marks and shapes are my words. I speak with my hands; I paint to say what I can’t put into words.
